The Most Beautiful Biking and Hiking Trails Near Otterlo

EuroParcs De Wije Werelt is nestled in the heart of the Otterlo forests, just a stone’s throw from De Hoge Veluwe National Park and the Planken Wambuis. Surrounding our vacation park are the Veluwe’s most beautiful sand drifts, heathlands, and forest trails. You can easily walk or bike right into the woods from here! We’ve selected a number of beautiful cycling and hiking routes around Otterlo for you. These routes take you past shifting sand dunes, old Scots pines, and surprising viewpoints.

De Zanding Hiking Trail (5 km)

Want to get some fresh air during your stay at De Wije Werelt? Grab your hiking shoes and set out on this nearly 5-km route, right near the park. You’ll walk through drifting sand, past the heathlands, and through a picturesque coniferous forest with old Scots pines. Halfway through, you’ll climb up a rugged moraine area, densely covered with oak trees, and be rewarded with a few stunning viewpoints overlooking the surrounding area. The route is varied but not strenuous. Start at the De Wever Lodge parking lot and follow the red markers.

De Zanding Hiking Trail, 5 km

De Zanding and Mosselse Zand (8.5 km)

Are you up for a longer hike? This 8.5-km route takes you through the sand drifts of De Zanding and the Mosselse Zand. You’ll walk along winding forest trails through Planken Wambuis, across vast sandy plains, and past quiet heathlands dotted with characteristic posts and fences. Along the way, you’ll pass special spots like “De Houtzagerij” and a wildlife rest area. The route is well marked. This walk also starts at the De Wever Lodge parking lot.

Bicycle Route from Otterlo through the Hoge Veluwe (38 km)

Looking for a beautiful bike ride during your stay at De Wije Werelt? This 38-kilometer bike route takes you through De Hoge Veluwe National Park, with its sand drifts, dense forests, and expansive heathlands. You’ll cycle through the unique Oud-Reemsterzand and Deelense Zand areas to Hoenderloo, and from there back toward the charming town of Otterlo. At the end of the route, relax at our restaurant, De Houtzagerij, for a bite to eat and a drink. Please note: The National Park is only open during operating hours and requires an admission ticket.
